Celebrating All Saints Day this November the first

Try our favourite six things to do this All Saints Day

All Saints day is a wonderful opportunity to spend time learning about the amazing lives of the Saints as well as time to reflect on the lives of those who have passed. We have picked our favourite six activities to do this All Saints Day for all the family.

1. Earn a Pleneray indulgence and pray for the dead.

Visit a cemetery and pray for those who have passed
away. Visit a cemetery and take some beautiful
flowers too. Pray with your family or even mentally for
the dead. From November 1st to the 8th you will
earn Pleneray indulgence if you follow the normal Indulgence rules, which means you will have to be in a state of grace,

Prayer for the dead

We thank You Lord for the passing of our brothers
and sister’s. We exalt Your name for the good life
they have lived. We pray oh Lord, that everlasting life
be given unto them. And as they abide in Your garden, let Your angels touch what they
cannot touch again. Father, be with their souls and
may they rest in perfect eternal peace. Amen

2. Thank God for unknown saints

There are many saints in our day to day lives who we might not
instantly recognise. Spend some time thanking God
for all those who bring Jesus's love and charity into
others lives.

3. Dress up as your favourite saints and play games.

You could also make a special family meal and play family games. There are some wonderful Saint's to dress up as, such as St Benedict and St Theresa the Little Flower.

4. Pray the Litany of the Saints

5. Study your saint name

Study the name you were
confirmed with. You can also find a pri table online
and spend some time colouring.

6. Make an All Saints Day recipe.

We love these
cookies from the Difforti brand

Pane dei Morti, ‘Bread of the Dead’

150g amaretti biscuits

350g ladyfinger biscuits

120g almonds

120g dried figs

120g raisins

250g all-purpose flour

300g sugar or sugar alternative

50g cocoa powder

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

¼ tsp. ground nutmeg

Pinch of salt

125g pine nuts

6 large egg whites

100ml sweet dessert wine (use 50ml apple cider

vinegar and 50ml water with a spoon of honey and a
small amount of vanilla essence for a non alcoholic
alternative)

Icing sugar, for dusting

Preheat oven to 180°C.

For the baking tray use baking parchment or grease
the baking sheets with zero salt butter or coconut oil.

You will need to grind the amaretti biscuits in a food
processor with the ladyfinger biscuits and the
almonds. Once blended add the figs and process to
form a thick dough.

Combine the dough with raisins, flour, sugar, cocoa
powder, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and
pine nuts. You can then use your hands to make sure
the dough is combined.

Add the egg whites and dessert wine (or alternative)
to the bowl and mix well.

Shape the cookies: scoop out a small ball 5-6cm -
sized portion of dough and flatten, leave a two biscuit
size space between each biscuit

Bake for 30 minutes or until puffed and crisp. Allow to
cool before sifting the icing sugar on top. Serve with
hot chocolate or hot milk and have a blessed All
Saints Day! God Bless!
